Water Quality Objectives
Water quality objectives are developed to protect our community values and reflect the Beneficial Use Declaration. Water quality objectives
are the “numbers” which reflect the indicators of water quality (such as turbidity, pH, salt levels and nutrient levels). Water quality
objectives allow us to determine whether a particular value or use for water is being met.
By undertaking monitoring of water quality in Darwin Harbour we can compare the actual water quality to the water quality objectives.
If the water quality objectives are not being met, then we need to act to improve water quality in Darwin Harbour. Water quality monitoring
is undertaken as a partnership between industry, government and the community.
Over the last ten years water quality in the Harbour has been monitored. This monitoring has allowed a baseline for all future decisions
on the Harbour.
