Guidelines and Tools

As part of the WSUD Strategy project, a series of WSUD guidelines and tools are being produced. These will assist:

  • Developers to understand what is involved in implementing WSUD in a new development
  • Consultants to develop WSUD Strategies for new developments, then progress through concept and detailed design stages
  • The Development Consent Authority/local council staff to assess development applications which include a WSUD component
  • Local councils with ongoing operation and maintenance of WSUD elements such as wetlands and bioretention systems
A draft "road map" (PDF) has been prepared, showing the guidelines and tools available. The best starting point is the following two fact sheets:

  • Fact Sheet 1: Introduction to WSUD (PDF)
  • Fact Sheet 2: WSUD process, tools and resources (PDF)
These two fact sheets are intended to assist with planning for WSUD in the initial stages of the development process. Guidelines and tools are also available for the concept design, detailed design and operation and maintenance stages.
